Dennis Keith Rodman was born on May 13, 1961. His birthplace is Trenton, New Jersey. He grew up in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas. He is the son of Shirley and Philander Rodman Jr., an enlistee in the Air Force, who later fought in the Vietnam War. His father left his family when Rodman was too young and settled down in the Philippines. He has many brothers and sisters, 26 or 28 siblings alone from his father’s side. According to him, he is the oldest of the 47 children. Rodman was nicknamed “The Worm” by his mother. His sister, Debra, won two national titles with the Lady Techsters.


He attended South Oak Cliff High School where he was a gym class student of future Texas A&M basketball coach Gary Blair. Gary Blair also trained his two sisters, Debra and Kim, winning three state championships. However, he was not considered a gifted athlete. He had also stated that he was not able to take a layup. Although he got listed in the high school basketball teams, either benched or cut from the squads.

Personal Life

He has been in relationships with multiple women. He had an affair with Madonna in 1994. In 1992, he married Annie Bakes. However, they divorced after 82 days. They had a daughter named Alexis Caitlyn before their marriage. On November 14, 1998, he remarried Carmen Electra, a model, at the Little Chapel of the Flowers in Las Vegas, Nevada. This also could not survive and ended up in divorce in 1999.

He has a son and a daughter with Michelle Moyer whom he met in 1999. They married in 2003 and divorced in 2012.


Rodman became eligible for the 1986 NBA draft. He played first for the Detroit Pistons as the third pick in the second round. In his early basketball career, he played at the small forward position before becoming a power forward. He played for the San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, and Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association.
