Robert’s journey into shaping his career wasn’t without hassle. He started out in the 1950’s taking up uncredited roles in films such as “The Happy Years.” Nonetheless, he managed to be signed to Twentieth Century Fox at age 20.

Under the signing, his first film was in the 1951 “Halls of Montezuma.” Still, he got another supporting role in the same year in “The Frogmen” film where he starred alongside Richard Widmark. Robert’s popularity started growing after he appeared in the 1952 “With a Song in My Heart” film.

Robert got other supporting roles before he landed lead roles. He started taking up the leading roles in movies such as “Broken Lance” (1954) and “The Mountain” (1956). However, the films failed to hit and he then got back on his feet in the 1960 “All the Fine Young Cannibals.”

It was in the 1960s that Robert got leading roles that gave him career breakthrough. He appeared in the “To Catch a Thief” from 1968 to 1970. Through it, he got an Emmy nomination for Best TV Actor. Additionally, Robert appeared in the “Switch” series where he appeared as Pete Ryan. The series was a success and opened the opportunity for him to appear in the “Hart to Hart” series in the late 70s.

Robert got nominated for four Golden Globe Awards and this came because of the successful series he was involved in.
